Agreement between The Government of Canada and The Government of The United States of America Extending the Softwood Lumber Agreement between The Government of Canada and The Government of The United States of America, as Amended

THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (the “Parties”),

WHEREAS the Softwood Lumber Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America, done at Ottawa on 12 September 2006, as amended by the Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America amending the Softwood Lumber Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America done at Ottawa on 12 September 2006, done at Ottawa on 12 October 2006, entered into force on 12 October 2006 (the “SLA 2006”),

WHEREAS Article XVIII of the SLA 2006 provides that “[t]he SLA 2006 shall remain in force for 7 years after the Effective Date and may be extended by agreement of the Parties for an additional 2 years”,

HAVE AGREED as follows:

Article 1

Extension of the SLA 2006

The SLA 2006 is extended through 12 October 2015.

Article 2

Entry into Force

This Agreement shall enter into force on the date the Parties complete an exchange of written notifications that they have fulfilled all of their necessary internal procedures.


IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the undersigned, being duly authorized by their respective Governments, have signed this Agreement.

DONE in duplicate at Washington, D.C. this 23rd day of January 2012, in the English and French languages, each version being equally authentic.
